1st Test for Exemption from English Courses for Newly Admitted Students – Spring 2019




This is to inform that all newly admitted undergraduate students who are proficient in English language skills may apply for exemption from two English courses (Intensive English I & Intensive English II).

There will be two tests of exemption for Intensive English I & Intensive English II courses. The first test on Intensive English I will be held on January 19, 2019. The second test for Intensive English II will be announced later.

First Exemption Test Details:

Course title: Intensive English I
Test Fee: 2500 BDT
Date: January 19, 2019
Time: 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Exam venue: UIU Campus
Last date of registration: 10.00 am, January 19, 2019
Registration venue: Admission Office, UIU
Result publication date: January 20, 2019 at UIU website


Students who will score minimum 66% marks in each test will be exempted from the respective course. On passing the tests, students will get waiver on course fee for Intensive English I & Intensive English II and save time while completing their graduation.

Question Pattern of the Exemption Test for Intensive English I 

Duration: Two hours

Full marks: 100 

Reading: 40 Marks

There will be two reading comprehensions. The comprehensions may contain:

  • Multiple choice questions
  • Fill in the blanks
  • Matching
  • True/false
  • Close and open ended questions

Writing: 30 Marks

  • Summary Writing
  • Story Writing
  • Grammar Test

Listening: 15 Marks

A Listening track will be played twice and the candidates will listen to it carefully. Then, they will have to answer the following questions based on the listening text:

  • Choose the correct answer
  • Guess the meaning
  • Fill in the blanks
  • Matching
  • True/false
  • Question/ Answer

Speaking: 15 Marks

  • Interview
  • Impromptu Speech


(The candidate will be provided with a pool of topics. He/she will randomly pick one of the topics and will prepare for two minutes for the impromptu speech. Then, he/she will deliver the speech and will be evaluated.)
