United International University (UIU) observed the 58th birth anniversary of Sheikh Russel, the youngest son of father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on its campus on 18th October 2022 with deep affection and solemnity.

Sheikh Russel, also the youngest brother of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was born on 18th October in 1964 at the historic Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi, Dhaka. At the age of ten, he was brutally killed on 15th August in 1975 along with most of his family members, including his father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, when he was a student of class four at University Laboratory School.

Marking the birth anniversary of Sheikh Russel, in the morning at 10:00 AM, a ‘Tree Plantation Program’ was held at UIU. Prof. Dr. Md. Abul Kashem Mia, Vice Chancellor (In-charge) of UIU along with high officials planted some trees on UIU campus. Dr. Md. Zulfiqur Rahman, Registrar; Prof. A.S.M. Salahuddin, Treasurer (In-charge); Md. Mahbubur Rahman Aazad, Joint Director, Finance and Accounts; LT. COL. Md. Zayed Hossain (RETD.), Joint Director, Office of the Registrar; Nazmul Hasan Chowdhury, Joint Director (Admission), Deeba Farkhunda Banu, Deputy Librarian and other admin officers were present in the program.
