Mr. Shahriar Ahmed Chowdhury, Director, Centre for Energy Research of United International University has been honoured Education Leadership Award for his pioneering role and excellence in Education, Research, Leadership and Teaching in the field of Renewable Energy. The most prestigious Award was given to Shahriar Ahmed Chowdhury on the 7th World Education Congress at the Taj Land Ends Hotel, Bandra, Mumbai, India on the 5th and 6th July, 2018.
Shahriar Ahmed Chowdhury has successfully established himself as a leading figure in the field of sustainable and renewable energy development in Bangladesh. He obtained his B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from BUET in 1997. Later he completed his M.Sc. in Renewable Energy from University of Oldenburg, Germany.
As a faculty member of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of United International University (UIU), Mr. Chowdhury initiated an undergraduate course in Renewable Energy for the first time in Bangladesh. He is the founding director of the Centre for Energy Research at UIU. He has developed a Solar Photovoltaic applied research Laboratory equipped with advanced facilities at his university by the grant support from the World Bank and IDCOL. He is the author of more than 45 book chapters, journals articles and conference proceedings. He has so far trained around 1700 local technical professional on design, operation and maintenance of solar PV systems.
