This is to inform that all newly admitted Undergraduate students who are proficient in English language skills may apply for exemption from two English courses (Intensive English I & Intensive English II).

There will be two tests for exemption from Intensive English I & Intensive English II courses. The first test on Intensive English I will be held on October 07, 2018. The schedule of second test for Intensive English II will be announced later.

First Exemption Test Details:

Course Title: Intensive English I
Test Fee: 2500 BDT (non-refundable)
Date of Test: October 07, 2018
Time: 12:00 pm – 02:00 pm
Test Venue: UIU Campus
Registration Period: October 01 – 06, 2018 (9:00 am – 05:00 pm)
Registration Place: Admissions Office, UIU


Students, who will score minimum 66% marks in each test, will be exempted from the respective course. On passing the tests, students will get waiver on course fee for Intensive English I & Intensive English II and save time and money while completing their graduation.



Question Pattern of the Exemption Test for Intensive English I

Duration: Two hours

Full marks: 100


  1. Reading:

There will be two reading comprehensions.

  1. Grammar based
  2. General reading skills based


The comprehensions will contain:

  • Multiple choice questions
  • Fill in the blanks
  • Capitalization and punctuation
  • Matching
  • True/false
  • Close and open ended questions 


  1. Writing: 
  • Text based summary

The original text will include information about: education, science, arts, business, culture etc.


  1. Listening:

A Listening track will be played twice and the candidates will listen to it carefully. Then, they will have to answer the following questions based on the listening text:


  • Choose the correct answer
  • Guess the meaning
  • Fill in the blanks
  • Matching
  • Write true/false
  • Short answer questions


  1. Speaking:
  • Impromptu Speech

The candidate will be provided with a pool of topics. He/she will randomly pick one of the topics and will prepare for two minutes for the impromptu speech. Then, he/she will deliver the speech and will be evaluated based on the following rubric.
