This is to inform that all newly admitted undergraduate students who are proficient in English language skills may apply for exemption from two English courses (Intensive English I & Intensive English II).

There will be two tests of exemption for Intensive English I & Intensive English II courses. The first test on Intensive English I will be held on May 13, 2019. The second test for Intensive English II will be announced later.

First Exemption Test Details:

Course title: Intensive English I
Test Fee: 2500 BDT
Date: May 13, 2019
Time: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Exam venue: UIU Campus
Last date of registration: May 12, 2019
Registration venue: Admissions Office, UIU
Result publication date: May 14, 2019 at UIU website


Students who will score minimum 66% marks in the test will be exempted from Intensive English I course. On passing the test, students will get waiver on course fee for Intensive English I and save time while completing their graduation.

Question Pattern of the Exemption Test for Intensive English I


Duration: Two hours

Full marks: 100


  1. Reading:40 Marks

There will be two reading comprehensions. The comprehensions may contain:

  • Multiple choice questions
  • Fill in the blanks
  • Matching
  • True/false
  • Close and open ended questions


  1. Writing:30 Marks
  • Summary Writing
  • Story Writing
  • Grammar Test


  1. Listening: 15 Marks

A Listening track will be played twice and the candidates will listen to it carefully. Then, they will have to answer the following questions based on the listening text:

  • Choose the correct answer
  • Guess the meaning
  • Fill in the blanks
  • Matching
  • True/false
  • Question/ Answer


  1. Speaking: 15 Marks
  • Interview
  • Impromptu Speech


(The candidate will be provided with a pool of topics. He/she will randomly pick one of the topics and will prepare for two minutes for the impromptu speech. Then, he/she will deliver the speech and will be evaluated. )
